Tune out of the noise and recharge with State Library Unplugged. Following its popular debut at Vivid Sydney last year, this relaxing night of books, crafts, games, talks, acoustic music, vinyl DJs and soundscapes celebrates libraries as a hub of discovery, creativity and community.

Head to the historic Mitchell Library Reading Room for reading, writing, origami, games (including mahjong for all skill levels facilitated by No Flowers 麻将 Mahjong Club) and a special collection display, soundtracked by an original, meditative commission by Sydney artist Jerome Blazé.

In the Friends Room, take time out to hear short talks. Or relax with puzzles and art-making materials in the Paintings Galleries, where you’ll hear a diverse range of Sydney’s acoustic sounds. Catch sets from 17-year-old Gomeroi singer-songwriter Kyla Belle; flautist duo The DeeBeeTees; underground hip hop and r’n’b star A.GIRL; bush song custodians Warren Fahey Trio; vinyl DJ Lu Faria; Sydney producer Scruffs; and Hamed Sadeghi, a composer trained in Persian classical music and the tar, an Iranian lute.

In the Bashir Reading Room, author, artist, and self-proclaimed “sentimental crafty girl” Martina Calvi leads a drop-in junk journaling, letter writing and zine-making meetup. Bring your own journals, scraps and treasures to personalise your project, or use some of the provided materials to get creative.

Come by yourself, with your family or friends, and reconnect with yourself, others and the physical world.
